Teacher held for molesting 15-year-old

A government school teacher was arrested on Monday for allegedly molesting a 15-year old girl student. 

The victim, daughter of Venkatesan, a labourer from Angampatti, was a Class IX student of the Pochampalli Government Girls High School. The incident occurred two days back, while a documentary on child marriage was being screened at the school.  A few IX standard students did not watch the film and stayed back at the classroom.  A teacher, Mohan (35) visited the class room and asked the victim to accompany him outside, on the pretext of discussing a particular subject. He took the girl to a secluded spot on the school premises and molested her. When the girl raised an alarm, he fled.

Meanwhile, the girl rushed home and told her parents about the incident. Her parents immediately lodged a complaint with Pochampalli police.  On Monday, police traced Mohan to his native Thuringipatti near Uthangarai and arrested him  It has been alleged that though some of the students complained about the conduct of the teacher to the school administration several times, no action was taken.
