THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: IT major Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has commenced the construction of its first development centre on the Technopark campus. The development centre spans one million sq. ft. and is being constructed on 26 acres of SEZ land in the first phase. Technopark authorities have already given the nod for the company’s uniquely-designed signature building. The new building has been planned to aesthetically merge with the environment and will have all inbuilt mechanisms to conserve and protect the environment. “This is a good news for us at Technopark as it will create high-paying jobs and will contribute significantly to our export figures,” said Mervin Alexander, CEO, Technopark. “This decision by the TCS will also encourage other IT majors who are not present to move into Technopark,” he added.“Though the TCS was one of the first entrants to Technopark, it did not have a development centre here but have its Global Training Centre on the campus here. “With the new building coming up, the TCS will add additional employment to the extent of 8,000 professionals in Technopark. The company is already looking for temporary space to commence the operations without waiting for the building to be ready,” Alexander said. TCS is also likely to start the construction of their global training facility in Technocity in an area of 82 acres. This will be one of the largest training facilities for any sector in the country.
