Srinagar/New Delhi: Tariq Ahmad Dar, the model from Jammu and Kashmir arrested by Bangladesh police for possessing fake documents in September and now lodged in Tihar Jail, is "innocent and someone is framing him," his father claimed on Sunday.
Qazi Gulam Nabi Dar, 51, is adamant his son is innocent.
Qazi said Tariq had gone to Bangladesh for the first time with him in 1995 to sell local handicraft.
"He was in class X when I took him with me to Dhaka. After 2000, he started handling the handicraft business on his own. Later, he started modelling and earned himself some name in Bangladesh," Qazi said.
Tariq was arrested in Dhaka September 16 by the Bangladesh Rapid Action Force who charged him with possession of fake documents and being an agent of India's Research and Analysis Wing (RAW).
He was remanded in police custody in Bangladesh for a month and after his deportation to India he is now lodged at the Tihar Jail after Indian security agencies said he had links with the terror group Lashker-e-Taiba (LeT).
His case is expected to come up for hearing Tuesday.
"Tariq went there on a valid Indian passport. First the Bangladesh police charged him with fake documents and later when the Indian high commissioner there wrote to the local government, the charge of possessing fake documents was withdrawn against my son," Qazi said.
The anguished father wondered why someone is acting against his son.
"He has been charged with going to Pakistan in June. The landlord of the house where my son stayed has confirmed that Tariq never went out of Dhaka during that period."
After learning about his son's arrest, Qazi went to Dhaka.
"Union Water Resources Minister Saif-ud-din Soz was also on a visit there that time. I spoke to him and he spoke to the Bangladesh home minister and requested a thorough enquiry into the whole matter. But nobody has helped us with the truth," he said.
