PUDUCHERRY: The Puducherry Human Rights Committee has recommended to the government to take action against five police officers (sub-inspectors) for violating human rights, said a participant at an open house conducted by the police department on Saturday. Senior Superintendent of Police (Law and Order) V J Chandran accepted the papers presented by the speaker and said that he would look into it.Large scale sale of lottery tickets especially in the town were going uncontrolled despite the ban on the sale, said another participant. The SSP then asked for specific location, to which the participant said the Nellithope area. Petrol had been drawn for police vehicles including 50 motorcycles which were never used, said P Ragupathy of Rajiv Gandhi human rights awareness organisation. He alleged that the petrol drawn from Government automobile workshop for the vehicles was being used in other vehicles for personal work. The SSP assured to take action.The use of black tinting in cars, which diminishes the visibility of the occupants within, was in violation of the provisions of the MV Act, a participant pointed out. It was alleged that government vehicles were being misused as the people seated inside were not visible due to the tinting. The SSP said vehicles should be used for the purpose for which they were given, but said that many vehicles came with the tinting when they were delivered.Beat constables charging mamool of Rs 20 per shop was brought up by another participant, to which the SSP said action would be taken.
