'Super-duper fast' Firefox on its way
Mozilla has shared an outline of the next big upgrade of the popular Firefox web browser.

New Delhi: Mike Beltzner, Mozilla's director of Firefox, has shared an outline of the next big upgrade of the popular Firefox web browser. Mike, in a post on his blog, said the primary goal for Firefox 4 is to make the browser "super-duper fast" and also to enable "new open, standard Web technologies (HTML5 and beyond!)."

Mozilla's vision is to give users full control of their browser, data, and web experience. Mike stresses that the plans for Firefox 4 are "fluid and are likely to change." The first beta release of the browser could be available as early as June and version 4.0 to be available for download in November.

Likely features in Firefox 4:

- A sleeker and simpler default theme with fewer user interface controls and fewer pixels between user and content.

- Mozilla plans to improve the Firefox user experience by doing away with interruptions on startup and modal dialogs. Updates will also happen in the background without interfering with the browsing experience.

- Faster navigation with switch to tab option to make it easier to switch between tabs and dedicated "application tabs" to reduce the number of tabs.

- Firefox 4 will also give users more control over websites' permissions.

- A new add-on manager will make it easier for users to discover relevant add-ons. Add-on installation wouldn't require a browser restart.
