BANGALORE: Students of a number of colleges in the city have extended support to Yoga guru Baba Ramdev who is on a fast-unto-death against corruption and black money at Haridwar.Students visited the premises of the Freedom Park where the followers and supporters of Baba Ramdev are holding a demonstration and expressed their support to his movement. Karthik Balaraj, a second year PUC student from Seshadripuram College is fasting with many of the activists and common people since June 4. He said he is capable of fasting because of the Yoga.Teachers and students of Yadava College which offers Pre University as well as degree courses visited the demonstration’s venue. Speaking to Express, Principal of the Degree College Prof Shashi Kiran said that he had come with 70 students. “The students sat here for one-and-a-half hours. Our idea was to make them listen to the speech about black money and anti-corruption. It is good to inculcate these ideas among young minds,” he observed.Principal of New Horizon PU College Prof Jawahar Mirazkar said around 450 second PUC students visited the Freedom Park on Tuesday. He said that they were against black money and they wanted to bring awareness among their students.Speaking on the occasion, Shabarish, a student from Commerce section of the New Horizon College said: “It is unfair to arrest Baba Ramdev. It is everyone’s fundamental right to express their views.” “When our country is witnessing a series of scams like 2G and Common Wealth Games, one need to stand against such things,” he noted. Aishwarya, a student from Science section who wanted to speak but could not get the chance, told Express that if someone like Baba Ramdev had taken an initiative and stood against corruption, “the least thing we can do is support him.”Secretary of Blossoms Education Society D Shashikumar who is also the Secretary to Karnataka State Private School Management Federation advised private school management members not to visit such place. “When all of us know that there was chaos at Ramaleela Maidan in Delhi, it is risky to send children to the demo’s venue,” he felt. At Blossoms, he said that they were organising a series of workshops through children clubs on anti-corruption.
