Student among trio held for theft attempt

PUDUCHERRY: A third-year electronics and electrical engineering (EEE) student was among the three persons arrested on Tuesday for attempting to snatch a gold chain from a 73-year-old woman at her residence in Kosapalayam on March 16.SP(North) S Ramaraj said that two persons had entered the house of Sundaravalli (73) and tried to snatch the chain from her. Following this, her household help, Susila raised an alarm after which they escaped from the spot. The SP said the Orleanpet police team, led by sub inspectors Senthilkumar and Pavithran, arrested the accused Sivaraj (24), Achudan (22) and Chandru (23) following questioning after they were held during a vehicle check on the suspicion that motorcycle on which they travelling was stolen.Sivaraj is a third year EEE student of private engineering college while Achudhan is a distance education student. Chandru, had worked as the driver of the house and befriended the two for committing the theft. The questioning of the trio  revealed their involvement in the theft attempt. The motorcycle, which was stolen from Cuddalore, was also seized.SP Ramaraj warned the public that proper verification of the antecedents of persons should be done before employing them.
