Colombo girl Priyamvadana’s condition, hemifacial microsomia, in which one side of the face was underdeveloped since birth resulting in facial asymmetry, had also led to deformity of her ear, eye and nose on that side. Severe jaw deformity had also caused badly aligned teeth and girl had difficulty in eating, speaking and moving the jaw. To correct the deformity, an innovative surgical technique - Intraoral Simultaneous Distraction Osteogenesis of Maxilla and Mandible - was employed at the Balaji Dental and Craniofacial Hospital in Teynampet.
