The District Road Safety Council has decided to set up a special committee which would be solely responsible for the regulation of traffic prior to the second phase implementation of the Metro Rail Project.
The regulation will come into effect on a par with the demolition of the North RoB. District Collector P I Sheikh Pareeth said that the demolition would take place soon as the two bridges to be constructed on either side of the North RoB will be ready by September as per the information provided by the DMRC officials.
Once the Salim Rajan bridge is completed in December, a part of the heavy traffic can be diverted, the Collector informed. The newly formed committee is expected to regulate all traffic keeping this point in mind, he added.
Meanwhile, the Karayampara median crossing on the Aluva-Ankamaly national highway will be temporarily closed since it has been reported that the number of accidents here are at an all time high.
The Road Safety Council has also given the nod to set up traffic signals at Kalamassery Aryas Junction, Kaloor Deshabhimani Junction, Mamangalam Junction, Padma Junction, Rajaji Road Junction, Shenoy’s Junction, Kumbalam South Junction.
Also, all advertisement boards would be replaced by traffic sign boards at the Puthencavu Junction on the Trippunithura-Vaikom route, the council said.
Also, traffic through many roads under the Thrikkakara municipality would be diverted, said municipal chairman P A Muhammed Ali. Road-marking from Rajaji Road Junction to Valanjambalam will be undertaken. Also, setting up of pre-paid auto counters would be considered, the Collector informed.
