Bandipore: The Army’s 14 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) commandos, 7 Paramilitary and Special Operation Group (SOG) of police launched massive cordon-and-search operation in the forest area of Bhutoo, 5 kms from main town Bandipore.
The security forces, according to sources, fired a few warning shots towards the suspected spot. The terrorists present in the area opened heavy fire triggering off a gunfight between the two sides.
During the initial gunfight, a soldier Rifleman Suboth of 14 RR sustained bullet wounds and was immediately evacuated to Army’s 92 base hospital in Srinagar where he succumbed to his injuries.
The sources said that the Army also pressed choppers into services and have sealed all exit routes.
Earlier, a joint team of all the forces had launched the operation at Slynder forest area of Shok Baba village in Summlar area to track down terrorists hiding inside the forest area.
