From fighter jet rides to space travel, Thrillsextreme is full of hair-raising holiday ideas

Adventure holidays are getting bigger in the country, with over 10 outfits offering everything from paragliding in the Himalayas to hot air balloon rides. The latest to climb aboard the ‘rent-a-ride’ bandwagon is Thrillsextreme, an Indian adventure sports and travel company, which seeks to be different with fighter jet rides in the MiG 29 and the L-39 Albatros. Plus, there are plans to introduce space travel in 2014. If that has not caught your attention, how about supercar rides - Lamborghini and Ferrari fans, are you listening?

Man in the picture

If the L-39 Albatros sounds familiar, that’s because it was used in the James Bond film, Tomorrow Never Dies. Thrillsextreme, a Gurgaon-based outfit has, besides highadrenaline activities like skydiving in the Himalayas, luxe offerings like private jet parties, and for the more ‘traditional’ crowd, bungee jumping and mountain bicycling. Kunal Goyal, who started the company a few months ago, says, ‘‘My passion for adventure activities and the need to bring about a change in the Indian adventure market inspired me to start Thrillsextreme. I hope to promote adventure sports among the iPad generation in our country and see India on the global adventure map one day.’’

Highs and lows

The list of activities include tank rides (outside India), scuba diving, desert safaris, offbeat camping in the hills, ziplining, Tyrolean traversing, paragliding, private jet parties, treks and skydiving in the Himalayas and fighter jet rides(ouside India). Goyal, 33, informs, ‘‘With regard to our fighter jets like the MiG 29 and the L-39 Albatros, the licences are with the private entities who own these jets. The owners have trained fighter jet pilots to give our clients the ultimate rush.’’ The entrepreneur, who returned to India after spending seven years in Australia, insists that Thrillsextreme offers ‘‘the most comprehensive portfolio of thrilling adventures for virtually all budgets and appetites, priced from `600 onwards’’.

Future plans

A contest to select the first Indian civilian in space will be announced later this year. The $95,000 space programme for Indians starts in 2014. The cost is inclusive of a three-day stay at a luxury resort, all the training required for travel to outer space, medical examinations, a co-astronaut certificate and a personalised flight suit.
