The Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the T P Chandrasekharan murder case will file a chargesheet against all the 76 accused in the case before Vadakara Judicial First Class Magistrate M Shohaib on Monday.
Crime Branch DySP and member of SIT, K V Santhoshkumar will submit the single chargesheet including the seven-member killer gang, conspirators and those who harboured offenders as the accused.
Sources maintained that the chargesheet in the conspiracy case to kill Chandrasekharan in 2009 will be filed later.
The investigation has found that Chandrasekharan was murdered because he and his party RMP had become a major threat to CPM in Onchiyam area, which is well known as a party fortress.
The chargesheet will contain the SIT’s findings in the cases relating to the murder of Chandrasekharan on May 4, and the conspiracy that led to it.
The police had found that there were several attempts to murder Chandrasekharan before last May.
M C Anoop, who drove the Innova that hit Chandrasekharan before he was attacked, is the first accused. CPM Kunnumakkara Local Committee member K C Ramachandran is the first person included in the chargesheet after the assailants.
CPM Kozhikode District Secretariat member and the husband of Kuttiady MLA K K Lathika, P Mohanan is named 14th accused in the case. CPM state committee member K K Ragesh, Kannur District Secretariat member Karayi Rajan, District Committee member and Onchiyam Area Secretary C H Ashokan, Area Committee member K K Krishnan, Panur Area Committee member P K Kunhanandan, Orkattery Local Committee member Padayamkandy Raveendran, Kunnothuparamba Local Committee members Jyothi Babu and Vadakkayi Manoj and Koothuparamba Area Committee office secretary Babu are the other party leaders involved in the case.
Thalassery Area Committee member P P Ramakrishnan is not an accused in the case but he is a main accused in the conspiracy case to eliminate TP in 2009 along with Onchiyam Area Secretary C H Ashokan, registered by Chombala police, sources said.
Sources maintained that the SIT can conduct further investigation into the larger conspiracy behind the killing with court’s permission.
The 1,000-page chargesheet is ready and the police have prepared required number of photostat copies of the chargesheet, which comes around 100 copies. Earlier, investigators had decided to file a split chargesheet against the killers and key conspirators in the first phase and those involved in providing shelter to the assailants, assisting the accused escape and securing SIM cards for the killers in the next stages.
But after receiving legal opinion, the SIT decided to file a single charge sheet in the murder case.
ADGP Crimes Winson M Paul, AIG Anoop Kuruvila John, DySPs Jossy Cherian, A P Shoukath Ali, K V Santhosh Kumar and Kuttiady C I V V Benny are the members of the SIT which conducted the probe into the politically sensitive case and prepared the charge sheet within a time period of two months.
