SIMI camp case: Trial held via video-conferencing

The NIA Special Court, Ernakulam, on Monday conducted proceedings in the Vagamon SIMI camp case with the 28 accused lodged at the Sabarmati Jail in Gujarat via video-conferencing. Special Judge S Vijayakumar arrived at the Ernakulam sub jail at 12 noon and initiated the procedures.

The accused in the Gujarat jail sat in front of a camera. The judge asked the accused about the jail environment and their welfare. They submitted that they were not fully satisfied with the atmosphere in the jail. To which the court said that it would ask the jail authorities to produce the accused before the court when the trial begins. The court extended the judicial remand of the accused till August 20.Meanwhile the court recorded the custody of the accused in the Vagamon case.

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) had earlier sought permission to conduct video-conferencing of the accused while conducting the trial and other proceedings in the case.
