HYDERABAD: Barring a few minor incidents including debarring of two candidates who resorted to malpractices, the first day of the written examination for recruitment of police sub-inspectors went off peacefully across the state on Saturday. The written examination was held at BHEL township and Karimnagar in the sixth zone limits amid massive security in view of the threats by pro-Telangana groups to disrupt it. Over 4,000 police and paramilitary forces were deployed at BHEL township near Hyderabad, where the test was conducted at six centres. Hyderabad range DIG Y Nagireddy told Express that one candidate G Ramesh has been debarred for resorting to malpractice at BHEL exam centre. Another candidate Bandaru Suguna Rao was also debarred at Eluru centre who was found in possession of some xerox copies. The examination is being held at Visakhapatnam, Eluru, Guntur and Kurnool for filling posts in Andhra and Rayalaseema regions. According to Andhra Pradesh State Level Police Recruitment Board chairman M. Malkondaiah, around 18,000 candidates are taking the examination to fill 1,293 posts.In Karimnagar district 3,662 candidates appeared for the exam out of the 3, 911 applied. Warangal range IG Anjani Kumar along with Karimnagar range DIG Sanjay Kumar Jain camped at the examination centre. Meanwhile, police detained several Telangana activists since Friday evening as a preventive measure.
