The Asian Development Bank (ADB) will lend Rs 911 crore to the state government to build a protection wall across its 300 km coastal line to prevent sea erosion, said Minister for Ports and Muzrai Kota Srinivasa Poojary here on Friday.
Speaking to reporters, he said that both the state and the Union governments have agreed to avail the Rs 911 crore ADB loan, which includes 16 per cent contribution of the state for the project.
The state government, according to him, will implement a Rs 223.32 crore project to prevent sea erosion across Ullal coastal line in Dakshina Kannada district where the problem is severe.
The said project will be implemented in three phases. M/s Euro Consult Mott Macdonald will be the technical consultants for the project.
Poojary said that last week four bidders had shown inclination towards the project and submitted financial bids for constructing the inshore berm.
According to Poojary, the state government has also send a Rs 86 crore proposal to the Centre for building brake water guide bunds at Gangoli Fisheries port.
On works undertaken at the old Mangalore commercial, port, Poojary informed that the state government is spending over Rs 3.91 crore in the current year. The state government is also implementing the third stage development works at the old- Mangalore fisheries port at a cost of Rs 57.60 crore.
