ALUVA: Suchithwa Bodhana Yajanam (SBY), a citizens’ partnership project for a modern clean Ernakulam District, has entered its second year successfully, attracting the attention of public, students and workers in large numbers. Everyone is well aware of the need and importance to keep the house premises, workplaces and surroundings clean and environment-friendly. Many diseases including fatal ailments like cancer, heart diseases, renal disorders etc are caused by polluted air, water, food etc.SBY, a 15-year-long noble initiative, was conceived by Renewable Energy Center Mithradham, the first fully solar education institution in the country, functioning at Chunamgamveli near Aluva. Mithradham is aimed at protecting the environment and promoting the pollution-free renewable energy sources. Rajagiri College of Social Science, Kalamassery, is coordinating with the activities of SBY. The SBY is a partnership project strengthening the Clean Kerala Mission in their localities. The partners will receive financial support for their activities. The finance of the project is managed by Souhradaya Services and Charities, Kalamassery.“The whole district would be clean in a few years, improving the quality of life with the implementation of SBY. One needs to spend only few minutes to ensure cleanliness. Activities need motivation. The lack of sacrifice for a clean environment would result untold miseries to the society and individuals,” said Fr George Peter Pittappillil, the soul and spirit behind the SBY, told Express.Fr Pittappillil CMI accompanied by the SBY volunteers, students workers and students initiated a series of padhayathras through the length and breadth of the district, including the remote villages. They crossed more than 160 kms on foot, meeting local people and local authorities, discussing various means to promote cleanliness in their areas.
