Vikrant Massey Says Boman Irani’s 3 Idiots Character 'Virus' Is Inspired By Vidhu Vinod Chopra

Vikrant Massey is beaming with joy. After the astounding success of 12th Fail, the actor welcomed a baby boy with his wife Sheetal Massey, earlier this month. Vikrant Massey has been receiving praise from all quarters for his performance in the Vidhu Vinod Chopra directorial. Now, in a recent conversation with Unfiltered By Samdish, Vikrant got candid and talked about his director. The actor, who was all praise for Vidhu Vinod Chopra, claimed that the filmmaker lives a life like Boman Irani’s character VIRUS (Viru Sahastra Buddhe) from the movie 3 Idiots.

Clarifying his statements, Vikrant Massey stated, “Vidhu Vinod Chopra is so passionate, he works 16 hours a day even today. Even if he sleeps at 2 am, he will be up for a morning walk at 7 am. He walks faster than me. The food you get at his house is outstanding. He has 5-star chefs at home."

Talking about how he has a similar habit that was shown in Boman Irani’s character, Vikrant Massey added, “From what I have known, for the last 30 years, Vidhu Vinod Chopra has to take an afternoon nap. Lately, he has started listening to a podcast that is 28 minutes long and wherever he is in the world, he follows the circadian cycle."

As Vikrant Massey continued further, the actor seemed convinced that Boman Irani’s character in 3 Idiots was inspired by Vidhu Vinod Chopra. Vikrant said, “Viru Sahastra Buddhe is inspired by Vidhu Vinod Chopra. Just like how Virus used to lie down and get his beard shaved, that is Vidhu Vinod Chopra." FYI: 3 Idiots, featuring Aamir Khan, R Madhavan and Sharman Joshi in the lead roles, is directed by Rajkumar Hirani and is backed by Vidhu Vinod Chopra.

Coming back to 12th Fail, which hit the theatres last year on October 27. The movie has been receiving love and appreciation from fans and critics alike. Earlier, this month Boman Irani wrote a thorough and honest note dedicated to Vikrant Massey and his stellar acting in the film. The 3 Idiots star shared a post on Instagram that included the screenshots of the note. An excerpt of the note read, “You got it right Massey… The truth is, that the real preparation happens inside the soul of the character… You can’t rehearse for that, can you? You can only live it through a belief that goes way beyond your stupendous external preparation for the role. You don’t have to do it for the camera. You have to be in front of the camera…"

Sharing the note, Boman Irani wrote in the caption, “You heard it before Vikrant Massey I know. Once more won’t hurt."

12th Fail is a cinematic portrayal of the life of IPS officer Manoj Kumar Sharma, which has been headlined by Vikrant Massey. Apart from Vikrant Massey, the film features Medha Shankar, Anant V Joshi, Anshumaan Pushkar, and Priyanshu Chatterjee.
