New Delhi: It was at the Australian Open last year when Sania Mirza shot into the limelight, becoming the first Indian woman ever to reach the third round of any Grand Slam.
This year Sania is going to start the new season with training from one of the world?s best coaches ? Tony Roche.
?Roche normally does not take up assignments with upcoming players like Sania and only agreed after Indian Davis cup winner Jaideep Mukherjea put in a good word for her,? Sania?s father Imran Mirza said.
Roche was instructor to tennis greats like Patrick Rafter and Ivan Lendl and is currently training world number one Roger Federer.
He signed up as Federer?s part-time coach at the beginning of this year only after great insistence from the multiple Grand Slam winner.
Tony Roche will start training Sania in late December in her build-up to the Australian Open early next year.
The first training session will take place in Sydney and will last for three weeks. Roche will work on specific areas of weaknesses in Sania's game, particularly her serve.
Imran also said they were looking for a permanent coach for Sania.
Sania would play at least two tournaments in Sydney or Hobart as part of her build up for the Australian Open.
It was the Australian Open that catapulted Sania to the big league last year.
