New Delhi: A dozen people have been injured in a clash between members of the Shiromani Akali Dal (A) (SAD-A) and Shiv Sena supporters at Taram Taran near Amritsar on Sunday.
The clash occurred because Shiv Sainiks were planning to burn an effigy of the Akali Dal chief Simranjeet Singh Mann.
This was being planned in retaliation to the SAD (A)'s claim that the Shiv Sena had supported them in a clash against the SAD (B) in November at Kathunangal.
Security has been tightened in Amritsar and the police is on high alert, especially since Punjab Assembly polls are due early 2007.
