The state government has released Rs 25 crore for the implementation of a special package to address the development related concerns in the five Naxal-infested districts in the state.
According to official sources, the Finance Department has released Rs 5 crore each to Dakshina Kannada, Chickmagalur, Udupi, Shimoga and Tumkur districts where Naxals are reportedly active.
The State Home department has identified as many as 726 villages in five districts in the state as Naxalinfested in the state. “The fund under the special package would be spent by the district administration concerned after working out an action plan,” the official informed Express.
While confirming the release of special grants under the Naxal Package, Shimoga Deputy Commissioner Vedamurthy said that top priority would be given to construct all-weather roads to connect taluk and main district roads to remote settlements within the forest ranges.
Better healthcare facilities, including mobile health vans, construction of community halls, repairs and building new culverts and small bridges will also be undertaken, he informed.
“These funds would be received from the state government over and above the release of the normal state grants under Plan and the Non-Plan head,” Vedamurthy said.
The fund would also be utilised to impart professional technical skills to youths in various categories, including that of TV and mobile repair, plumbing, tailoring, driving and motor winding, the Shimoga DC said
