Chennai: The remains of Dornier CG-791 aircraft, which went missing on June 8, were found on Friday. The plane was on a routine sortie along the coastal areas of Tamil Nadu and had three Coast Guard aircrew on board when it went missing. Flight data recorder and two vital parts have also been recovered. Reliance Industries vessel 'Olympic Canyon' was also involved in the operation.
"Indian Naval submarine Sindhudhavaj whilst on redeployment for locating the missing aircraft, picked up a barrage of transmissions in a depth of 996 meters on July 6" said a press release.
Speaking to CNN-IBN the ADG Coast Guard said, "Recorder LRU and two vital parts of the Dornier have been recovered by Coast Guard with the help of Olympic cannon vessel at 950 meters. It is 14 nautical miles from the land area."
An extensive search operations involving ships, helicopters and submarine besides other underwater search equipment was undertaken after the plane went missing, with a number of agencies including the Navy, Coast Guard and Coastal Security Group of Tamil Nadu police involved. A submarine from National Institute Of Ocean Technology were also involved in the operation.
