Mumbai: Slain BJP leader Pramod Mahajan's wife Rekha on Friday identified Pravin Mahajan as the person who had fired at her husband on April 22 last year.
"I saw Pravin Mahajan fire at Pramod with a pistol that he had," she told the court, which started the trial in the case on Wednesday.
The court started recording of Rekha Mahajan's statement on Thursday, but she could not complete her statement after breaking down in tears. On Thursday, the court had granted Rekha permission to appear again on Friday.
Described the sequence of events on April 22, 2006 when Pramod Mahajan was shot, Rekha said she had covered her husband in order to protect him after seeing Pravin shoot at Pramod.
Thereafter, she pushed Pravin out of the room, but he kept trying to fire at Pramod, she said. However, an emotional Rekha broke down again when she was asked to state the date on which Pramod passed away.
She was examined by a doctor in the court, who said she was not fit to continue giving her statement. Sessions Judge S P Davare then adjourned the proceedings till March 26.
Rekha was accompanied by her daughter Poonam, BJP leader Gopinath Munde's wife Pradnya and her brother-in-law Prakash Mahajan.
