KOCHI: The government has given second thoughts to its decision to rehabilitate tribal people of Kuttampuzha panchayat at Chullipoovan,  the starting point of Pooyamkutty forest. And, for the residents of the panchayat it appears to be a bolt from the blue which is capable of shattering their way of life.Earlier, the authorities had said that they would set up a township at the aforementioned place for tribal people staying at Kannampara, Uriyampetty and  Warriam colonies in Kuttampuzha panchayat to which the tribals also had agreed. According to the tribal people, “the authorities are backing out from their earlier decision.” B N Nagaraj, Divisional Forest Officer, Malayattoor, said that there was a plan to shift the people to Punnekkadu, a teak plantation near Thattekadu.  “There are complications in giving a fresh forest area. Since they want to pursue agriculture, Punnekkadu would be the suitable place,” he said adding that they have taken up the proposal as it would be of immense help to the tribal people. But, the tribal people said that that they could not sever their connection with the forest as their existence depends on it.
