New Delhi: A ready to sniff swine flu vaccine will hit the market next fortnight. The Intra-nasal vaccine, priced at Rs 190, is prepared by Pune's Serum Institute and will hit the market in July.
You just have to sniff the liquid vaccine and you are safe from the flu. The Serum Institute of India, plans to manufacture half-a-million doses by July and another one million by August.
The monsoon has revived fears of a spurt in the Swine flu cases. Pune reported its 245th victim of the virus early this week even as health authorities claimed that they were better equipped now to deal with the H1N1 threat.
A 26-year-old pregnant woman died of Swine flu on last Monday in the government Sassoon hospital becoming the 32nd casualty in the city out of the 62 deaths reported in the last three months in Maharashtra, indicating that Pune continues to bear the brunt of the deadly virus.
And since the schools reopened last week, three students have tested positive for the H1N1 virus and were being treated home quarantined.
This, however, has not diluted the optimism of civic and state health authorities who insist that as compared to the situation witnessed in the city last year, the positive cases this time around have been showing a "decreasing trend".
