This year's tableaux component comprises 13 states and five Union Ministries / Departments.

New Delhi: This year's Republic Day parade will see 18 tableaus march on the Rajpath showcasing the splendour of Indian states and portraying themes ranging from heritage, culture, art & crafts, biotechnology, sustainable agriculture and environment. The northern state of Uttar Pradesh will bring forth the beauty of sunrise in the ancient city Banaras. With the theme 'Subhah-e-Banaras', one can expect beautifully carved temples of the Ganga ghats take a major portion of the up tableau.

UP's neighbouring state, Uttarakhand which was ravaged by natural calamity last year will highlight the treasure of medicinal herbs including the life saving herb, described as 'Sanjeevani Booti' in its tableau.

Known by different names of Bakarwals, Gaddies, and Chagpas, the nomads of Jammu & Kashmir form the population of the state's three region- Kashmir, Jammu and Ladakh. This year, J&K is set to draw everyone's attention to its nomadic populace.

Kawad art is one amongst the famous folk art of Rajasthan. Kawad is a structure, fairly resembling a sort of cupboard, with 8 to 10 doors which have stories painted on them.

Now moving to the Southern states, Kerala tableau, a regular at the Republic Day parade will give it a miss this year. While Tamil Nadu will focus on its most popular festival, Pongal, Karnataka pays homage to the great warrior Tippu Sultan.

A pioneer in war techniques and a sworn enemy of the British imperialism in India, Tippu, for the first time in the world history, used the rocket technology in his war against British, in the Anglo-Mysore battle.

Assam, Arunachal Pradesh and Meghalaya will represent the north-eastern India. In this year's tableau, Assam pays tribute to legendary artiste Dr Bhupen Hazarika. This great Assamese legend with the golden voice and a multifaceted genius was a lyricist, musician, singer, writer, poet and film-maker.

Buddhists form a notable chunk of the Arunachal Pradesh population and Aji Lhamu dance is one of the most prominent folk dances amongst the Monpas and Shardukpens communities. The theme of Arunachal Pradesh tableau is the Aji Lhamu dance.

Another north-eastern state, Meghalaya will stroll down its tableau on the Rajpath with the Arecanut- a popular cash crop as its theme. Arecanut which is considered to be a native of Malaya is basically a tropical plant which grows well in areas right from sea level upto an altitude of 500 m elevation.

The repertoire of Purulia Chhau embodies the rich cultural heritage of West Bengal. The tableau from Benga; will showcase the spirit of Chhau - a vibrant mask dance performed in certain areas of the State.

The tableau portrays Kartikeya in his divine regalia. The accompanying artistes will enact their much-acclaimed "Mahishasura Mardini" - symbolizing triumph of good over evil.

Eastern state of Chhattisgarh will recall the freedom movement of Bastar in its tableau where it will depict the 'Bhumkal Freedom movement of 1910' spearheaded by legendary revolutionary Gundadhur. It was the largest tribal movement of Bastar region carried out against the British rule.

Narali Pornima (Coconut festival) is a major festival and part of Maharashtra culture. It is celebrated by fishermen community (Koli Samaj) of coastal Maharashtra on a grand scale. The colourful festival forms the theme of this year's tableau for the state.

Among the ministries that would depict their might in their respective areas are Ministry of Railways, Ministry of Agriculture, Ministry of Earth Sciences, Ministry of Tribal Affairs.

This year Central Public Works Department Floral Tableau is depicting Rajpath on Avenue. The tableau leads the 'India Gate'.This exquisite piece of work is complete beautifully with presentation of unique colourful flowers from all over.
