HYDERABAD: A “rare” early morning shower brought relief to the citizens on Monday a day after the city experienced a maximum temperature of 40.4 degrees celsius.According to the Hyderabad Meteorological Centre, early morning rain is a rare phenomenon in summer and the good news is more such “cloud bursts” are expected in the next 48 hours.The Met department officials said rainfall of 9.1 mm was recorded on Monday as drizzles continued throughout the day in different parts of the city.Assistant meteorologist at the Hyderabad Meteorological Centre, S Venkateswara Rao termed the early morning shower as the “heaviest till date this year.” “As the temperature has been rising in the region heating up the ground, a ‘heat low’ has been formed over the ground in addition to the low pressure formed over the Telangana region.With assistance of a lot of moisture too, ‘cumulonimbus’ clouds (involved in thunderstorms and inclement weather) have also developed,” he explained.He said though summer showers are common, heavy downpour at nights is rare.The maximum temperature recorded on Sunday was 40.4 degrees celsius.The temperature on Monday, however, dipped by a couple of degrees following the early morning showers and overcast day conditions.Notwithstanding these showers, summer is expected to intensify in the coming months.
