Rape accused let off by Panchayat after touching victim's feet

In an instance of kangaroo court justice in Bareilly in Uttar Pradesh, a rape accused was let off after he was made to touch the survivor's feet.

The survivor, a 30-year-old widow, was allegedly raped on January 28.

The woman has claimed that the village pradhan was called in when she filed a complaint with the police. Following this, the pradhan convened a panchayat outside the police station where he made the accused touch the survivor's feet and let him off.

She was then asked to stay mum about the crime by the pradhan. The Police have begun a probe into the incident.
