Rape accused held

JAIPUR: The Kaliapani police on Thursday arrested a youth for allegedly raping a five-year-old girl in Gurujanga village in the district. The accused, identified as Budha Mohanta (25), works as a driver in a company in the chromite valley.According to the complaint filed by the victim’s father, a distant relative, Budha had come to their house on Wednesday. While the family was busy arranging food for Budha, he took the girl out on the pretext of showing the vehicle parked outside. It is alleged that the accused raped the girl inside the car. The parents found the girl in a pool of blood, even as the accused fled, the FIR stated. She was rushed to the Community Health Centre (CHC) at Sukinda and shifted to SCB Medical in Cuttack when her condition deteriorated on Wednesday night.The incident came to the notice of police a day later when the victim’s father lodged a complaint. Police immediately swung into action and arrested the accused. The accused is being interrogated, said Kaliapani police station IIC Raisen Murmu.
