District Minister S A Ramdas offered Bagina to river Kabini on Sunday after performing prayers at the Kabini Dam, near Beechanahally in HD Kote taluk, breaking with tradition.

Generally Bagina is offered to rivers Cauvery and Kabini, after the reservoirs of the respective rivers reach the maximum level, by the Chief Minister in the presence of district minister present. But this year Ramdas offered it at Kabini instead of Shettar.

Ramdas, who was accompanied by MLC Siddaraju when he offered Bagina on Sunday, said Shettar was unable to offer the prayer at Kabini as he was on North Karnataka tour to review drought relief works.

Rs 2-crore Park Project

Ramdas said that the state had set aside Rs 2 crore for the development of a park near Kabini Dam like the Brindavan Garden in KRS, besides asking the Departments of Tourism and Irrigation to implement it jointly.

As both the departments had failed to make use of it, the project would be taken up by the Tourism Authority, he said.
