Rajnath flays Sonia for writing letters
Rajnath Singh says Sonia should "give up the habit of letter-writing" and speak to Manmohan Singh directly.

New Delhi: Riding high on his party's success in the Assembly elections, BJP president Rajnath Singh took a dig at Congress chief Sonia Gandhi on Wednesday.

Ridiculing Sonia for writing to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on FDI in retail and fuel prices, Rajnath Singh said she should "give up the habit of letter-writing" and speak to him directly.

"Writing letters again and again is not considered good...one doesn't know from where did this habit comes from. She should drop this habit of letter-writing and instead speak directly," PTI quoted the BJP chief as saying.

Sonia Gandhi confessed on Tuesday that the electoral defeat of her party in Punjab and Uttarakhand was chiefly due to the issue of rising prices.

In spite of sound all-round development, the party was unable to retain power, which, she said, indicated that while objective factors such as the price rise may have had an impact, there were other reasons as well.

So, while Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Finance Minister P Chidambaram speak of a booming economy, Sonia knows that positive growth rate numbers will not buy her votes.

Meanwhile, unhappy with the UPA's economic policies, the Left feels that Sonia's concern is driven by electoral defeat. “We had suggested two things, if they had done that they wouldn't have had to face electoral defeat,” said CPI(M) leader, Sitaram Yechury.
