New Delhi: The Madras High Court has quashed an Advisory Board order rejecting the plea of Rajiv Gandhi assassination accused Nalini. Nalini had applied for an early release citing good conduct.
The court has asked the board, which sought her release, to reconsider its plea. It asked for reconsideration because of procedural lapses in the constitution of the board.
There is no bar on a second remission for a life convict
Nalini, who is serving a life term, appealed in May this year for an early release. She has already served more than 17 years in the Vellore jail.
Earlier, the Tamil Nadu government had opposed her plea. Nalini had initially been awarded the death sentence, but it was later commuted to life imprisonment
This was based on an appeal from Sonia Gandhi after Nalini gave birth to a baby girl in jail.
