Rajit Kapur shied away from playing a detective after his Byomkesh Bakshi, became very popular. But he's back to doing it again, perhaps in a more stylised version in his forthcoming film Ghumshuda.
He says, “I was shying away from playing a detective particularly after Byomkesh Bakshi was so popular. But, I loved the character that was offered to me. I play Prashant Sehgal who wants to solve a particular case in the film.”
He adds,” This detective is no where similar to the dhoti-kurta clad Byomkesh.”
Rajit Kapur is happy that Bollywood has finally coming to realise that content is the king. “I have always felt that the script and content is king. People in our industry have woken up late. You cannot invest 70 crores and take the audience for a ride. You need to surprise them, emotionally hold them.”
The actor also runs a theatre company, and thinks that there is lot from theatre can be used to make a film. “There have been a lot of movies adapted from stage. Vishal Bhardwaj’s Omkara is an adaptation of Shakespeare’s Othello. And where do you think all the love stories come from? They are all inspired by Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet,” says the actor.
His upcoming films are Marega Sala, Monica, Do Paise Ke Dhoop Charane ke Barish and Damn 999.
