New Delhi: Rains lashed parts of north India bringing some respite from the hot and humid conditions even as day temperatures settled at over 40 degrees Celsius at several places.
Weather continued to be muggy in Delhi with humidity levels touching almost 80 per cent while the maximum was recorded at 41.3 degrees Celsius, three notches above normal and minimum was registered at 28.4 degrees Celsius.
According to the weatherman, humidity levels were recorded between 40 and 79 per cent during the day.
The national capital received 3.6 mm rainfall till 8.30 am here as the Met department predicted partly cloudy sky and thundery conditions on Friday.
Light to moderate rains occurred at isolated places in Uttar Pradesh bringing down temperatures in several parts of the state.
According to the Met department, rainfall recorded in various places was Jhansi, Sultanpur 5 cm each, Bansgaon 4 cm, Gorakhpur, Harriya, Domari, Uttaraula, Fatehpur 2 cm each, Hata, Baberu, Basti, Mankapur, Maharajganj, and Mirzapur 1 cm each.
However, Etawah recorded the highest maximum temperature at 45.8 degrees Celsius in UP, the Met department said.
Heat wave conditions eased in Rajasthan due to influx of moisture from the Arabian sea and rainfall in Haduati and tribal areas.
Hindon and Karauli recorded a maximum rainfall of 6 cms each followed by Mandrayal, Bari and Sawaimadhopur 5 cms each, Deeg 4 cm, Govindgarh, Mandrayal 3 cms, and 1 to 2 cms at many places, Met official said.
Scattered rains in Jaipur brought relief from the hot and humid conditions as the city recorded a maximum temperature of 42 degrees Celsius and 60 per cent humidity.
Heat wave conditions persisted in northwest of Rajasthan as Churu recorded a maximum temperature of 45 degrees Celsius followed by Sriganganagar 43 and Bikaner 42.8 degree Celsius.
Hot weather swept most places in Punjab and Haryana a day after marginal decrease in maximum temperatures.
In Punjab, Amritsar sizzled at 42.6 degrees Celsius, while Ludhiana and Patiala recorded above normal temperatures of 42.5 and 41.8 degrees Celsius, MeT office said.
In Haryana, Hisar experienced a hot day at 43.5 degrees Celsius, while Narnaul, Karnal and Ambala recorded maximums at 40, 41 and 39.7 degrees Celsius, respectively.
The maximum temperature in Chandigarh also witnessed a slight increase since Wednesday settling at 40 degrees Celsius, two notches above normal.
