The Himalayan Pink Salt, famous for its purity, has now found its centres in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh. With numerous health benefits and an attractive colour, a group of ten entrepreneurs from Amritsar in Punjab has set up shops of Himalayan pink salt by the side of the city’s roads. The people of the city are buying and carrying these stones because they are naturally better than the packets found in the market. It is also known as unprocessed salt found in the lower Himalayas of Pakistan. These are rich in minerals like magnesium and potassium. Generally, this salt is used in cooking. The experts believe that this salt also can enhance natural beauty.
Bought from Punjab to Visakhapatnam, pink salt here costs Rs 100 per kilogram and black salt Rs 150 per kg. These salt stones are being sold in many centres in the city. At present, sales are being made at AU ground in the middle of Polamamba Temple from the third town police station in Visakhapatnam. The vendors will be staying in Visakhapatnam for the next two years while replenishing their stock regularly.
“In a gap of every 2-3 months, trucks laden with pink salt will be brought from Punjab. Around 10 tonnes of natural salt will be transported to Visakhapatnam by truck. Altogether ten persons from Punjab are into distribution and sale of Himalayan pink salt,” said Mahendra, a vendor, while talking to Deccan Chronicle. Stressing the product’s authenticity, the vendor claimed that much of the pink salt available in the market is adulterated while they sell pure salt. It is often sold by mixing it with regular salt, added by the vendor.
The group of entrepreneurs also home deliver the Himalaya Pink Salt. According to the vendors, Himalayan pink salt also has beauty and health benefits which increase its demand and so price. They have minimum transportation costs. They are approximately completing 100 sales per day. They are already selling this natural rock salt in states like Karnataka, Hyderabad, and Uttar Pradesh.
