CHENNAI: The Madras High Court has directed the TNEB to provide power supply to the cracker shops being set up at the Island Grounds if the Chennai Fire Works Dealers Welfare Association and the Chennai Metro City Crackers Dealers Association made a deposit of Rs. 25,000 towards advance.The power charges should finally be collected at the rate of Rs. 8 per unit, the first bench comprising Chief Justice MY Eqbal and Justice TS Sivagnanam said on Friday.The bench was disposing of a review plea and a writ appeal from the associations seeking permission to continue their business in Parrys and Esplanade. The bench rejected their plea and held that they should go only to the Island Grounds. It also directed the TTDC to realise rental charges from the 120 shops. No unnecessary objections should be raised by the authorities and they should co-operate with the members of the associations in putting up the temporary sheds, the bench.
