Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday expressed concern over the turmoil in the valley and has appealed for calm in the region, MoS PMO Jitendra Singh said immediately after the high level meeting that was attended by top officials and cabinet ministers.
Modi hoped that innocent people shouldn't fall victim to the protests over the death of militant Burhan Wani, Singh added.
The protests in the valley have entered the fourth day and has already claimed at least 30 lives and left over 700 injured.
The PM also expressed satisfaction over the resumption of the Amarnath yatra after it was suspended for over for 2 days leaving Yatris stranded at various points.
Singh also said that PM Modi has extended support to the Jammu and Kashmir government and assured them of all the possible assistance.
Congress leader Tom Vadakkan meanwhile attacked the government and said that it has woken up very late.
"There should have been an action plan ready to tackle any unrest post such a covert operation that helped them gun down Hizbul Mujahideen militant Burhan Wani," Vaddakan told CNN News18 over the phone.
