New Delhi: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh expressed concern over the blast in Varanasi in which one person died and several were injured and appealed to all to maintain calm and peace.

Singh has asked the Home Ministry for a detailed report on the incident, a PMO spokesperson said. The prime minister also appealed to the people to maintain calm and peace, he said.

"The blast is an attempt to weaken our resolve by evil forces of terrorism in which terrorists will not succeed," he added.

Meanwhile, condemning the Varanasi blast, Home Minister P Chidambaram on Tuesday termed it an "attempt to disturb peace and harmony".

A low-intensity blast rocked the holy town of Varanasi on Monday evening leaving 20-25 people, including some foreign tourists injured.
