NEW DELHI: The Planning Commission on Wednesday approved Tamil Nadu’s annual plan of Rs 23,535 crore for 2011-12, which is Rs 3,467 crore higher than that of the last fiscal, and which Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa said she was happy with, as it is on expected lines. The State’s annual plan was finalised here at a meeting between Planning Commission Deputy Chairman Montek Singh Ahluwalia and Jayalalithaa.Jayalalithaa attended the meeting accompanied by Finance Minister O Paneer Selvam, the Finance Secretary, the Chief Secretary and her other secretaries to hold discussions on her request for a special grant of more than Rs 2.5 lakh crore for Tamil Nadu. Jayalalithaa had already submitted a memorandum for the same to the Prime Minister during her June 14 visit to Delhi.Jayalalithaa said the allocation was as per the State’s expectations. “This is what we expected from the Centre. We are quite happy with this allocation,” she said. She gave a comprehensive picture of the problems faced by the State, said Ahluwalia. “We really appreciate the chief minister for planning to come out with a ‘Vision 2025’ document,” he said.On the special assistance package of over Rs 2.5 lakh crore sought by the state, Jayalalithaa said no decision has been made.
