Bangalore: A Kiran Mark II trainer aircraft crashed at the Bangalore Airport runway due to a technical snag.

The aircraft, belonging to the Aircraft System & Testing Establishment (ASTE), crashed during a routine sortie.

It faced some trouble during landing as the wheels failed to open, leading to belly-landing, Deputy Commissioner of Police (East) V Muniswamy said.

The pilot and an engineer of ASTE on board escaped unhurt, he added.

Fire tenders and IAF personnel rushed to the spot and the aircraft was towed away from the runway, Muniswamy said.

Some 10 to 15 flights were delayed as a result of the crash.

The airport was closed for 1 hour and 35 minutes but resumed normal operation after the aircraft was removed.
