A total of 104 employees, including 100 drivers of the Ambur bus depot under the Tamil Nadu Government Transport Corporation (Villupuram) Ltd, received wrist watches as a token of appreciation for fuel saving.
As many as 3,404 buses were being operated in 55 bus depots in six regions attached to the Villupuram Transport Corporation. The buses travel around 16.34 lakh kilometres carrying 24 lakh passengers and consume around 3 lakh litres of fuel every year.
Ambur depot buses achieved a new record of 5.81 kms per litre in August 2012, when compared to the 5.78 kms per litre achievement last year in August. Through this, Ambur depot had saved around Rs 2.95 lakh per month.
Some drivers had even attained the performance of 6 km per litre and 70 per cent of them had crossed 5.75 km in one litre on an average.
S Bhupathy, Managing Director, TNSTC, on Tuesday, distributed wrist watches to 100 drivers and four employees of Ambur depot. Other officials attended.
