New Delhi: Upping the ante a day after it called off talks with India, Pakistan National Security Advisor Sartaj Aziz said the agreement reached in Ufa was interpreted differently by both the countries.
Sticking to its stand, the Pakistan National Security Advisor, who was scheduled to hold talks with his Indian counterpart Ajit Doval before it was called off amidst a heated exchange of words, in an exclusive interview to CNN-IBN said, "We wanted modalities of Kashmir to be discussed. Holding talks on Kashmir will reduce tension. Ufa objective was to reduce tension, so we need to discuss Kashmir, not terror."
Aziz said the meeting between India and Pakistan Director General of Military Operations will go ahead as planned. However, he also said that Pakistan won't propose talks in New York and it's upto India to do so.
Talking about underworld don and most wanted terrorist Dwaood Ibrahim who is hiding in Pakistan, Aziz said India has not given any official proof.
CNN-IBN's Manoj Gupta was the first to break the news that Pakistan had called off the NSA-level talks. Pakistan's move came just hours after India made it clear that discussions on Kashmir and a meeting with Hurriyat separatists will not be acceptable to it.
On Saturday, External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj had given a virtual ultimatum to Pakistan to give a clear commitment by midnight that it would not go ahead with meeting the Kashmiri separatist leaders which was not forthcoming and the neighbour used it as an excuse to call off the talks.
