Pak Senate Chairman Muhammadmian Soomro has okayed a purchase of a Merc costing Rs 11 million for himself.
Islamabad: Senate Chairman Muhammadmian Soomro has approved the purchase of a Rs 11 million Mercedez-Benz, plus other incidental charges for himself.
According to informed sources, Soomro was expected to buy the Mercedez-Benz to be at par with the National Assembly Speaker Chaudhry Amir Hussain (who got one last year).
Hussain's Mercedes cost the national exchequer around Rs 11 million last year and drew a lot of criticism from within and outside the parliament.
The Senate Finance Committee, headed by Soomro, has included the cost of the car in the budget proposals for 2006-07.
Currently, Soomro is using a Rs.10 million Land Cruiser, which was purchased last year.
