HYDERABAD: In a dramatic development, important documents and files of Textiles Minister P Shankar Rao were allegedly stolen by his personal assistant. The alleged theft took place when Shankar Rao was in the US, police said Thursday. The Minister had gone to the US on July 1 to attend the TANA meetings and returned to the State capital on July 9. Upon his return, Shankar Rao found certain important papers and personal files missing from his house. Suspecting the hand of his personal assistant M Narasimha Rao behind the theft, he lodged a complaint with the Central Crime Station (CCS) of the Hyderabad Police on Wednesday. When contacted, Shankar Rao told Express that among the missing documents were those relating to the Emaar Properties and Rahejas and irregularities in the Cantonment Board. It was only last week that the Andhra Pradesh High Court had ordered a preliminary CBI probe into the Emaar Properties-APIIC row basing on a letter written by Shankar Rao. Confirming the complaint, CCS Deputy Commissioner of Police J Satyanarayana said, “we have registered a case today and will question Narasimha Rao.’’ There were reports that Narasimha Rao had gone “missing” but the police clarified he wasn’t absconding. The police registered a case under Section 379 (theft).Sources said Shankar Rao had chosen Narasimha Rao as his personal assistant some time back. Narasimha Rao is an employee of the Intelligence department.
