'Over 2 Lakh Houses Built Under Central Schemes in 2 Years'
Housing and urbanization come under the purview of the state governments, the minister said, adding that central schemes like JNNURM, RAY, PMAY-U are being implemented for providing low-cost houses and related civic amenities to the urban poor including slum dwellers.

New Delhi: Over two lakh houses have been constructed under Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM), Rajiv Awas Yojana (RAY) and Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana Urban (PMAY-U) in various states in the last two years, Lok Sabha was informed on Wednesday.

"During the last two years, 2,23,814 houses have been constructed under JNNURM, RAY, PMAY-U by implementing agencies," Minister of State for Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation Rao Inderjit Singh said during the Question Hour.

Housing and urbanization come under the purview of the state governments, he said, adding that central schemes like JNNURM, RAY, PMAY-U are being implemented for providing low-cost houses and related civic amenities to the urban poor including slum dwellers.

The states and union territories including Andhra Pradesh are implementing these schemes through their agencies like Urban Local Bodies and Housing Boards, Singh said.

"Under the schemes of JNNURM and RAY, 13,86,761 houses have been sanctioned,of which construction of 10,60,899 houses were completed. Further, 8,54,386 houses for urban poor have been sanctioned for construction under PMAY-U, 'Housing For All' mission since its inception on June 25, 2015," he said.

Under this mission, construction of 1,770 houses has been completed so far, he said, adding that 8,004 beneficiary households have been disbursed interest subsidy under Credit Linked Subsidy Scheme of PMAY-U.

Singh further said the projects considered for central assistance under these scheme include arrangements for convergence of inputs of health, education, livelihoods and connectivity to city civic infrastructure from existing schemes and programmes of state or ULB or Centre.

Infrastructure component includes all basic civic and social amenities like water supply, sewerage, drainage, solid waste street lighting and community facilities, he added.
