THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Opposition leader V S Achuthanandan and his former Cabinet colleagues in the LDF Govt are still under the hangover of  power, said KPCC president Ramesh Chennithala here on Saturday. He also alleged that the Opposition is in a game plan of tarnishing the sanctity of the Assembly through not only consistent disruption of the House and raking up of controversies but also attacking the Watch and Ward staff.He was inaugurating the 37th Annual state conference of the Kerala NGO Association,affiliated to the Congress,here on Saturday.Ramesh observed that two CPM MLAs, attacking the poor Watch and Ward staff of the Assembly the other day turned out to be a real blot to democracy. He also ridiculed the attempt of  the Left to wriggle out of the issue by distorting facts. The KPCC chief exhorted the employees to strive hard to put forward their best and take the good initiatives of the UDF Govt to the public. Inaugurating the delegates’ meet as part of the conference, Transport Minister V S Sivakumar said that the UDF Govt was keen to realise development on all fronts. Government employees were not treated well by the previous LDF Govt. Cooperation Minister C N Balakrishnan, in his address, said that the NGO Association members should work with social commitment and thereby earn the respect and goodwill of the people. N Peethamabara Kurup MP, urged the govt to fill up the vacancies in government offices. The civil servants should help the govt to implement development programmes effectively. Palode Ravi criticised that some departments were not active in launching new initiatives under the 100-day programme of the govt. Association state president Kottathala Mohanan presided over the function. Association former presidents, K Karunakaran Pillai and Kambara Narayanan, K Mohankumar, M A Waheed MLA, KPCC former president Thennala Balakrishna Pillai and others spoke. The inaugural session was followed by a women’s meet. The conference will conclude on Sunday.
