Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy was hurt mildly on his forehead in stone throwing by LDF workers protesting against the solar panel scam on Sunday.

According to police, the glass panel of the car in which Chandy was coming to the police grounds here was shattered in the stone pelting and some shards hit his forehead on two spots slightly above his right eye.

Chandy, however, did not cancel his engagements and attended the valedictory function of the Kerala police athletic meet.

In the last couple of months, LDF has been staging protests wherever Chandy tours as part of its campaign demanding his resignation over the solar panel scam.

Security had been tightened in this north Kerala town in view of Chandy's engagement with police being deployed in large contingents on all roads leading to the police grounds.

Police said a group of LDF workers had sneaked through some narrow alley to gain entry into the venue of the Chief Minister. Two LDF workers had been taken into custody from the spot.

The glass pane of the official car of the Chief Minister was shattered in the stoning.

Chandy was accompanied by Culture Minister KC Joseph and DGP KS Balasubramanian.

Condemning the attack on Chandy, Home Minister Thiruvanchur Radhakrishnan said the DGP had been asked to give a report on the incident and prompt follow up action would be taken on its basis.

KPCC chief Ramesh Chennithala alleged that the attack on Chandy was carried out "with the knowledge of LDF leadership. The CPI(M) leaders cannot absolve themselves of what has happened in Kannur."
