Taluk officials hold meeting for peaceful conduct of Chaturthi

A peace meeting between the members of Hindu and Muslim outfits ahead of Vinayagar Chaturthi celebrations was held at the Vellore Taluk Office on Saturday.

Police Officials, representatives of civic bodies and religious leaders from Hindu and Muslim communities participated in the meeting, which was chaired by Vellore Tahsildar Dharmalingam. During the meeting, the members from Hindu outfits were advised not to place idols at new places. If a ido had to be placed at a new spot, the persons concerned would have to file an application with the district police, who would inspect the place and permit to place the idol. The members of  the Hindu outfits were asked not to play drums and sprinkle colour powders near Mosques. It was decided that drums should not be played during prayers at mosques between 4.15 and 5.15 pm. They were asked not to install statues above six feet height, place fire-fighting equipment, sand and water loads  and the ceiling should not be a thatched one.

Deputy Mayor V D Dharmalingam, DSP Dhakshinamoorthy, Vellore North Police Inspector Poonjolai, Members of Hindu Munnani, Tamil Nadu Muslim Munnetra Kazhagam, Manidhaneya Makkal Katchi, and AIADMK, DMK and Congress councillors of Vellore Corporation were present at the meeting.
