The annual conference of Neuro Spinal Surgeons Association of India (NSSA) was conducted here, last week. “This conference focused on ‘Cervical Spine and Spinal Cord’ and aimed at laying a strong foundation for aspiring and budding spinal surgeons all over,” said Dr JKBC Parthiban, President.
The conference also laid emphasis on practical exposure along with theoretical knowledge through the live demonstration of surgical procedures and a cadaver dissection workshop organised at the Madras Medical College. Spine 2012 was inaugurated by Dr Preetha Reddy, Managing Director, Apollo Hospitals.
The gathering was welcomed by Dr JKBC Parthiban, who is also the organising chairman of the event. The keynote address was delivered by Dr P S Ramani, Founder and honorary President of NSSA and senior neuro spinal surgeon at Mumbai.
He opined that despite the tremendous strides that neurosurgeons have made in neuro spinal surgery, lacunae has remained in the training of young neurosurgeons in modern techniques. So he sought the assistance of specialists from overseas in filling this gap to build a better platform for youngsters.
This conference had a galaxy of eminent specialists in the field of spinal surgery across the globe such as Dr Patrick Fransen fron Belgium, Dr Se-Hoon Kim from Korean, Dr Rahul Kashyap from Mayo Clinic, USA, Dr Thomas Hallbauer from Germany, Dr Koichi Iwatsuki and Dr Shoda Motoi from Japan, to name a few.
