NSS: Minority appeasement causing communal tension

As an apparent reply to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s statement on Sunday, that a communal situation is surfacing in Kerala, NSS general secretary G Sukumaran Nair has said that the policy of appeasing minorities followed by the Central and state governments, is causing communal tension.

He also said that there will soon be a consensus between the SNDP and NSS on the issue of reservation. Sukumaran Nair was speaking at the concluding function of the one-year-long platinum jubilee celebrations of the NSS Vaikom taluk union here on Sunday.

“The NSS is the biggest corporate institution working for a community in Kerala with a centralised way of functioning, running several educational and other institutions. On the other hand, the SNDP represents the majority community in Kerala. But unfortunately both the organisations are not consulted by the government while taking any major decision. In fact, the government decisions are taken at Panakkad,” he said.

About Pinarayi Vijayan’s recent statement that some organisations representing certain communities are joining hands to get more schools and colleges approved by the government, he said, “Pinarayi is making several mistakes nowadays and I take this as one among them”. Nair reiterated that the NSS-SNDP unity is intact and only those with political motives were suspicious about it.

He said that both the organisations had no other way but  to work in unity after the state government decided to give the fifth ministerial birth to the Muslim League.” The  function started at 2 pm with NSS leaders paying floral tributes at the statue of   Mannathu Padmanabhan at Valiya Kavala here. Then a procession was taken out  to the union headquarters at Mannam Nagar via the KSRTC bus stand and boat jetty.

A matrimonial website of the taluk Vanitha Union’s ‘Sree Parvathi Marriage Bureau’ was launched at the function. NSS president P N Narendranathan Nair, union president C R Vinod Kumar, vice-president S Madhu were present.
