Now, click a selfie with PM Narendra Modi at Delhi's Khan Market
Clicking selfie has been a hit in India ever since Modi took one with BJP's symbol lotus after voting in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections.

New Delhi: Combining trend with technology and using it to its best advantage, the Bharatiya Janata Party has started a new project 'Selfie with Modi'. Clicking a selfie has been a hit in India ever since Prime Minister Narendra Modi took one with BJP's symbol lotus after voting in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections.

People from all age groups eagerly want to get a selfie clicked with Modi and the BJP has opened a store in Delhi's Khan Market wherein anyone can walk in and get a selfie clicked with the Prime Minister for free. The BJP has used the concept of augmented reality and placed party symbol lotus having sensors in the store. As soon as someone stands in front of it, Modi's image appears in the camera.

The party is using Apple iPhone 5S which is placed on a tripod and a LED screen where one can check the image. The phone is then sent to the party office where the pictures are processed and then sent to respective email ids. They are also put on the site Selfie with Modi.

"It is a mode of communication and a means to connect with young people. More than 4 crore people are associated with the BJP and it will help the membership drive," says Pradeep Singh, a party worker.

Eyeing Delhi polls, the project was started on January 24 and the party is planning to open offices in all the 70 constituencies. "party will open such stores in all the constituencies and will put in mobile vans for the project,"Singh adds.

"It is not a state project, it is a national project. The party will open many stores," says Praveen Shankar Kapoor, BJP's media in-charge.

The party will use this concept in Bihar and Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections too. "The party will have stores in all Assembly constituencies during Bihar and Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections," says Singh.

There are three volunteers in every store who help people in getting their selfies clicked. These volunteers are college students and were given training in running the stores.

But one of the drawbacks of selfie is that the image does not look real. Another is that it takes nearly 24 hours for the image to be mailed as no laptops have been put in the store yet.

The concept is bound to become a hit with even celebrities coming to stores to get their selfies clicked.

What's your reaction?
